A hug can be a sign of affection, joy, camaraderie, restoration, reconciliation, comfort, a celebratory "job well done", and thankfulness.  . I went into Battle of the Blades with no expectations, no real joy for the sport of figure skating, a nihilistic view of the world, and a somewhat directionless passion for advocacy. Somehow this unassuming show about hockey players becoming figure skaters brought a real smile back to my face, a confidence that was almost extinguished by a toxic and racist culture, and a reassurance that the positivity and passion you put out into the world is valuable and can help so many people. Of course there are many people to thank, but none more so than Jessica Campbell. . 11 weeks ago I met Jessica, Katherine, and Ben to start our training for Battle of Blades, a show I was more anxious than excited to start. Having only met through a Zoom call this was the first interaction with a group I would be spending at least 1.5 months 24/7 with. Instantly Jessica's joyful and open aura smacked me in the face and the goofiness commenced. Day by day, week by week as we worked away on figure skating/hockey semantics and translations we got to know each others stories, behaviours, quirks, heartbreaks, and passions. All through laughter, injuries, and the occasional tears.  . Jessica, you helped me more than you'll ever know in such a short amount of time. Each of these embraces was a moment of healing, mutual appreciation, joy, and thankfulness. Thank you for your trust, your light, your vulnerability, your talent (PEEP THE TURN OUT, EXTENSION, AND EMOTION:👸🏼) and your advocacy. Together we raised awareness and $35,000 for kids to learn how to love themselves, to love others, and to use truth,  knowledge, understanding, and compassion as a tool for change in our world. There is SO much left to do but, this is exactly where I want to be.  . During a time where a hug is subversive and ill-advised, especially with a stranger.
