The amount of shows we did back in the day in the clubs for free meant so much more than any top dollar gig I’ve had. Every time I’ve danced or rehearsed with him i became a better dancer. It’s not about just dancing with friends....it’s not fun for me if I’m not gaining more knowledge. I will forever be grateful to Jonte! About 20 yrs ago during the Dance Click days of the school 🤢BDC, Jonte was 1 of 2 people who was kind to me before I was considered to be anybody. I was about 15yrs old just trying take street jazz classes and didn’t mesh well aka find the right “click” with the scene that existed at the time. I was too new, young and naive to understand that knowing the right people could take you further than any talent could. But The inspiration from Jonte didn’t start there... for me it started in the hallways of Ailey. I would purposely use the bathroom during ballet and try my best to find where jonte was taking class and stare at him. There was no other option for me but to strive to being the best by learning anything I felt necessary, and if that meant leaving class to gain inspiration by watching Jonte in West African and Horton then so be it. He’s a part of my development and I will never forget it. Flowers to You My friend. I feel it’s important to share my real experience with jonte.
