I use discord to talk to you guys on my own public server now, but even a few years ago, before video calling was even a thing on there, I was using Discord to talk to, and *make* new friends. When I made this piece originally, I told the friends I’ve made on a Discord server I joined anonymously to game on, I would mention them and the good times we shared. As I write this now though, a little after I’ve made the piece, we’ve lost one of our dearest members. I’m a rather private person, but because of my desire to be authentic it would feel almost wrong not to mention this talking about my true Discord experience while planning a memorial service for him that we’re holding on our server. It’s been a weird time realizing how close we’ve all become. I’m really happy with the concept of this piece working out the way that it did, it’s the closest I’ve gotten in a while to my mental visualization of an illustration before starting putting it down on the canvas.
