Our theory that the song was considered for a single was given more weight by an article published in Melody Maker in October 1975. In it, Harvey Kubernik interviewed Bowie at the taping of the Cher show in Los Angeles on 18th September. He also reported this: “‘Fascination’ will probably be culled from Young Americans as his next single”. As you know from yesterday’s post, in the event, Golden Years was in fact the next Bowie single. Today we’re featuring sheet music for the two singles that were taken from Young Americans, the title track and Fame. Fame is the US sheet and Young Americans the UK. The Fame sheet combined Tom Kelley’s 1975 bed shot along with Brian Ward’s Iconic 1972 Ziggy Stardust picture. The same image was used for the Fame press adverts. Aside from being green, the UK sheet for Young Americans was also unusual in that the Eric Stephen Jacobs cover shot was flipped. But, as highlighted in the montage, and without wanting to reignite the Fridge/Bridge debate (https://smarturl.it/BehindTheFridgeDBFB), at least they got the words right.
