I wanted to share this powerful image taken by the UNICEF pacific team in the aftermath of cyclone Harold earlier in the year. They were providing much needed aid for those on Pentecost Island in Vanuatu. In it -Four year old Nicky is removing a nail from a fallen post after seeing his Father do the same. Their home had been wiped out by cyclone Harold. International Children’s day is a day of celebration. Celebrating the rights and voices of our youth. This image speaks to me for a number of reasons; firstly because I remember as a kid our home in Ha’apai being devastated in a cyclone and doing the exact same thing as seen here despite being in my teens at the time. But more importantly I see the strength and resilience in young people if we can show them how and provide them the tools for life. In these testing times they are watching how we as adults behave, how we do life. I’m sad to see Nicky lose his house but am also happy to see just how strong young people can be and how bright the future is for the next generation. @unicefpacific @unicef」11月21日 6時45分
