This lyric is one of my favorites in the whole song. I think it’s really common to hear people talk one of two ways about their childhood and their past - it’s either that they have zero regrets and wouldn’t change anything, or that they have many regrets and wish they could go back in time and change it all.

For me, and I think for a lot of us, the truth is actually somewhere in the middle. This song is about acknowledging that our past and places we call “home” ARE messy. They’re not perfect. And it’s often unrealistic to look back on them and say we have zero regrets. When I think back on my past, of course there’s so much I would change. I think it’s natural and very human to feel that way. But the important thing is that despite that fact, there’s so much MORE I’d keep the same. 💛🏡
