My skin became covered in barnacles, I licked my salt torn lips, I’d lost site of the lighthouse. My treasure must be sinking faster and faster to the bottom of the ocean’s abyss, I thought. So I gave it up to the vast and muscular waves, No match for my small body And let it be lost with all the other treasure this ocean had stolen. I’d forgotten about my lost treasure That morning I stood on the shore. I’d found peace with knowing I’d lost it at sea. I took a deep sigh, squished my toes in the sand, and blinked nearly blinded at the rising sun. I was about to pack up and head home for the day when a glimmer caught my eye. I imagine a fish must feel this way when seeing a lure, I think. But I won’t fall for that trap. Yet, sparkling on the water The tide pushed it my way Gently rolling and brushing up against my feet. It wasn’t a trick, it was real as can be. I picked it up and held it in my hand, My lost treasure had found me! The ocean existed to remind me What’s lost can be found.
