Tonight starts a very important holiday for Ethiopian jews - yes, that’s a thing!!! Happy Sigd!!
#Repost from @hey.alma: Sigd begins tonight at sundown!! Sigd is an ancient Jewish holiday observed by Ethiopian Jews 50 days after Yom Kippur.
Similar to the Day of Atonement, in Ethiopia, Jews would climb a tall mountain and spend the morning repairing interpersonal relationships as well as fasting and praying for a return to Jerusalem. In the afternoon, they would gather for a festive celebration.
For tonight's #SundayRead, learn about Sigd and how to celebrate from @kvellercom — link in bio ✨
As they say in Amharic, “Melkam sigd beal.” Happy Sigd holiday!
