As I usually try to detox from social media on weekends (btw), some of my followers thought my account was hacked when I posted on Sunday. As it happens, I was drafting an Instagram story to assure my followers all is well, when my brother texts me and asks where I took the photo of the bathroom I’d just posted on my feed!! 🤯Huh? Needless to say I deleted said bathroom photo and secured my account. What do people get from these inane hacks? Would the kind of person that hacks another's online space, be the same kind of person to break into someone’s home? I doubt it. The online space doesn’t require the same tenacity and courage as the real world. What I also wanted to say is that when you have a large following and work with certain brands and partners, it doesn’t always resonate with everyone because of some or other reason. Sometimes these people let you know all about it. I don’t let it get to me because having the support of some really incredible companies and people, has resulted in my message having a much bigger audience than if I didn’t have these associations. I also know that there are people following me who don’t like my work, and they do this as an information gathering exercise or a way to bolster their already existing prejudices. I think people online do this a lot. The online space can be incredibly draining of your energy, and so many people hide behind fake accounts or blocked out avatars, trying to remain faceless and anonymous. I’d love to meet some of these people, who are emboldened by anonymity, face-to-face. I would love to see if they’d say the same things they comment, whilst looking into my eyes.
