The further west you go, the Great Wall becomes increasingly more difficult to follow, often disappearing over mountains and into the desert beyond the reach of a 4-wheel drive. The western wall looks completely different than the portions of Wall outside Beijing that most tourists see. A good pair of hiking boots, a dedicated fixer/guide and lots of time are musts for anyone who wants to follow the remote reaches of the Great Wall of China. #greatwallofchina #greatwall #gansu #ningxia
