In 2011, I stumbled across the effectiveness of using a driver around the greens at Augusta quite by chance after going early that year to get in some extra practice.

The chipping areas around Augusta are very sticky and they are usually mown into you - putting can sometimes be a good option but I found that the putter doesn’t quite have enough loft and bobbles too much, while a hybrid has too much loft and does the same - The driver, I found out, seemed to glide across the grass perfectly and so for a few years I used this shot occasionally around the greens at Augusta to great effect.

Being creative in practice and using lots of different clubs is a great way to practice - Seve did this all the time when working on his short game and it a great way to cultivate imagination, touch and an understanding for how clubs work.

In 2012 on the 15th hole during the final round, I made eagle hitting Driver, 3 wood (just off the edge of the green to the right) and holed out using a driver - can’t imagine anyone has ever eagled that hole with 2 drivers and a 3 wood 🤣 (There must be some tape of it somewhere?!)
