I’m white, I’m femme, I’m straight passing, I grew up in the upper middle class, I’m gay but I live in LA, which is one of the most progressive places I could be. I have immense privilege. I speak often about how our current president actively works to take my rights away but if I’m being honest, this isn’t for me. I’ll be fine. My personal life won’t change much on a day to day. I speak up and I fight for rights because I care about others. Whether I personally know them or not, I want this country to be a safe and fair place for everyone. The country is divided and we can’t even agree on why we are divided. I am sick of it. This all boils down to those who are focused on their self interest and those who are focused on equality for all. As far as I’m concerned, you better get on board or get out of the way. It might take time but we will get to a place where policies, laws and those in power are focused on the collective good. I know this election has us all terrified but no matter what happens we have a long way to go and no matter what we will not stop fighting for what it truly means to have “a more perfect union.” So even if you don’t fight for my rights and in many cases your own, I will continue to fight for yours.」11月6日 4時17分
