Mauree Turner, who prefers they or she pronouns according to their Twitter, won their race for Oklahoma state House for District 88 on Tuesday, becoming the first nonbinary state legislator in US history and first Muslim lawmaker in Oklahoma. Turner, 27, defeated Republican candidate Kelly Barlean to represent the district, winning about 71% of the votes, according to the Oklahoma State Election Board unofficial results. Turner has spent most of their life fighting for issues such as immigration rights, racial justice and criminal justice, according to a campaign news release. #CNNElection
