Of the many knocks on @AOC, one of the most prevailing is that she drives the political conversation but lacks a substantive coalition in Congress. “They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got,” Nancy Pelosi once quipped of Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib. But the Squad, as those four women are known, have been a “gift from God,” Ocasio-Cortez says—and the potential addition of Cori Bush from Missouri, Marie Newman of Illinois, and fellow New Yorkers Jamaal Bowman and Mondaire Jones to the House would mean “the Squad just doubled up,” Bowman says. Rounding out this “Squad-plus” are Nebraska’s Kara Eastman and current Illinois representative Chuy García, with Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Ed Markey (“Tío Markey”) as Senate allies.
“You keep telling me I’m just four votes,” AOC says, “so I’mma go get more.” Read the full cover story at the link in bio.
