A rare songbird that is female on one side of its body and male on the other was discovered earlier this month by researchers from the Powdermill Nature Reserve at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Out of the 800,000 birds the nature reserve has seen, this was only the fifth bird with this genetic variation. The last one was discovered 15 years ago. Scientists are planning to run genetic analyses on feathers from the songbird to learn more about its gynandromorphism and how it will affect its life.
