トニー・ホークさんのインスタグラム写真 - (トニー・ホークInstagram)「Last night we celebrated Miki Vuckovich’s tenure as executive director of @theskateparkproject. He is moving on, but we - and skateboarders everywhere - were lucky to have him at the helm for the last 16 years. Miki and I met at Del Mar Skate Ranch in 1982 and were the only two skaters at San Dieguito High School in our freshmen year. We were both miserable there, constantly being “picked on” (bullied) for simply choosing to ride skateboards as a hobby. But we found salvation and community at the skatepark; it was our misfit island, a place where we had the strongest sense of belonging and freedom, and where we formed life-long friendships with the other outcasts. We both chose to leave SDHS after our first year there - Miki enrolled himself in the nearby Army/Navy Academy and I was allowed to transfer high schools because my home bordered the school districts. The importance of having a skatepark as our refuge in those formative years was not lost on us, and it is exactly why I started the foundation and eventually put Miki in charge of it. Skateboarding has defined him for the last 40+ years, and he was the perfect voice for our mission of public skateparks in underserved areas. He worked tirelessly behind the scenes as an advocate for skaters everywhere, and is very likely one of the main reasons that you have a skatepark in your town. Thanks for everything Miki, skateboarding is in a better place because of your unfailing passion. We wish you all the best at @usaskateboarding. Prologue: @sda_mustangs has fully embraced skateboarding since our departure, offering on-campus (!) skate sessions during lunch. We’ve come long way but there is much more work to be done.」11月1日 2時34分 - tonyhawk
