It’s been about 7 months since the covid-19 pandemic quarantine started in the US. I know that for me this time has been triggering & traumatizing. I’m aware that I’m not alone. Time continues to unfold, sometimes in deeply disturbing ways, sometimes with hope, joy and love. These pictures remind me of my resilience throughout life in the presence of energies that would have me shrink. I’m grateful to recall why I was unnecessarily hard on myself this past Summer. I have no regrets for normalizing being an imperfect human like you. I know someone out there feels less alone in seeing my journey. But I have unresolved trauma too. And I’m healing. I’m healing because I’m taking responsibility for my humanity. I, too, have a right to my wants, needs, dreams, rage, sadness, joy & everything in between. I, too, have a right to my boundaries. I have a right to healthy relationships with integrity, mutual respect & honest communication; to be safely held without manipulation or exploitation. I have a right to be loved for all of who I am- not just what’s been accomplished or accrued. I, too, have a right to learn how to be alive while rebuilding. My resilience rises up to remind me that I’ve done & will continue to do meaningful work in the world, I can let go of the past while appreciating the lessons, I’m human, I’m a big beautiful queer, and I am enough. I am worthy of an authentic radical love. It starts within. It grows inside me like a rainbow of Dahlias and tall bright sunflowers.
