Between their birthdays, my uncle Roberto Bonazzi (who they’ve spent the last year caring for) died. It was a hard year. He was a smart man, a writer, he was tough and had a great laugh. I performed a poem of his in high school speech tournaments, which I thought was very serious but everyone found funny. I won the tournament and decided to be an actor. He survived Covid in his assisted living community while my parents managed his healthcare quagmire. Also last week, my partner Ryan nursed his mother back to health after being hospitalized with Covid. They’re both ok and home safe. Today Ryan and I celebrate 12 years together. Some weeks feel like years. I am grateful for the strength of my family. Grateful my parents can rest, my uncle is at peace and Ryan and his mom are healthy. Our nation is very very sick. We have to be strong and make the choices that protect all of us. There are leaders who are trying to do that. There are others who are actively dividing and deceiving us.
