When it came time to assemble a new band for his Sign O' The Times Tour, Prince recruited several musicians from the Bay Area—including Boni Boyer (pictured, left, with Sheila E.), whose soulful vocals can be heard on live #PrinceSOTT tracks like "Forever in My Life."

Prior to joining Prince's group, Boni was a keyboard player and backing vocalist in @sheilaedrummer’s band. She was brought into Prince's group at the end of 1986, and began rehearsals for the Sign O' The Times Tour in early 1987. Boni appears on the Prince albums Lovesexy and Graffiti Bridge, in addition to the Sheila E.'s Prince-produced third album, Sheila E.

Tragically, Boni passed away from a brain aneurysm in 1996. Those who worked with her in the Sign O' The Times era still vividly remember how much she brought to Prince's world, both on and off the stage.

“Boni was reality,” remembers @leviseacerjr. "Sometimes things could be, let’s say, intense. And then Boni would say, 'Oh, what time is lunch?' Just out of nowhere. Prince with those big eyelashes, he’s like 'excuse me?' And we’d all look at her like uh-oh, what’s Prince gonna say. And then he would laugh. Like 'Yeah, okay, I guess I been working you guys. Okay, go to lunch.'"

"She was one of these fun loving people; loved to joke a lot," says @mattfink1. "She liked to tell jokes and be funny, and she was a very gregarious soul."
