For anyone out there battling anxiety or depression or constant nagging of emotions regarding 2020, the pandemic, the election, the economy or violence-  the news networks of the world make their money by feeding us FEAR and negative news, 24/7.  Good news doesn’t earn good ratings.  I’m not saying be ignorant to the events in the world around you, but I’ve had a theory for years that humans, as a species, are not designed to KNOW every single action or event, whether positive or negative, happening around the world 24/7. Our brains simply aren’t designed to process that much information or negativity- it creates a feeling of helplessness or hopelessness. (and I am someone who LOVES information overload). So I’ve gone against my nature, avoiding the news in its entirety for 9 days… I’m now extending that to 30 and then possibly a full year.  I encourage anyone else feeling anxious or bummed out consistently to try the same… Don’t worry, if something important enough occurs, your friends or family will tell you.  If there are social injustices that you are compelled to ACT on, those events will reveal themselves.  Obviously, it’s voting season, so do the research on the people or ballots u are voting for, aside from that, ditching the news will give you back hours and weeks of your life, remove a layer of stress, and save you countless arguments with friends and family over meaningless topics.
