This is a picture of me standing in front of my picture hanging in the @Instagram corporate offices right around the time they incorporated the algorithm that cut me off from 90% of the people that followed me ... I was very critical of that yes because it effected me professionally but fundamentally I could just deeply feel what a dangerous principle it was that companies like Facebook/Twitter could hold the power to disconnect people who have chosen connection. In the world today we see just how dangerous that principle is as these social media companies are choosing what you can see or not see ... censoring content that doesn’t agree with their companies world views. Thanks to a thought shared by @joerogan today about how wrong that is as these are private companies who are facilitating our lines of communication much like the phone companies have been for decades it became clear why I always felt the way I did. Could you imagine if you were sharing an opinion while talking on the phone that Verizon didn’t agree with so they cancelled your call or banned you from talking to people? How would you feel? Do you realize this is exactly what they’re doing? This is scary big brother type shit and no privately held company should hold that power in a country that was founded on the right to speak and think freely.
