Micah and the neighborhood kids (from a few families we’ve been podding with since March) started rehearsing for “the greatest showman” several weeks ago. Daily. Repeatedly. Micah declared they would be performing the entire show for the parents on Halloween. He had no script. Micah has many epic dreams... a working amusement park in our backyard.... a 2 story treehouse in the neighbors front yard.... Well, I couldn’t help him fully realize those , but this one? I could help with this one. So I pieced the script together from closed captions I found on line (that was a full 2 day process as closed captions never have any character names or scene descriptions). Then we gathered the kids (who’d already cast themselves in the various roles), and we picked out 12 scenes to shoot that would allow for each of them to shine (there are 7 of them ages 4-10). The plan is to have an abridged hybrid show. 12 scenes on screen and all musical numbers performed live. We shot everything in my backyard in front of a green screen and we just wrapped filming this past weekend. For the next three weeks, we are recording the kids singing and I’m laying their voices into the soundtrack using garage band so that when they perform live they will sing along with their own voices. We also have some rehearsals planned for the musical numbers. I directed and shot and edited the scenes, but they are completely in charge of all of the live elements. I must say, I love these kids SO much, and doing this project (shot lists and directing and editing and sound recording and mixing, and schedule making) has been the greatest highlight of this crazy season. I never imagined this was how I’d be spending these months but I truly wouldn’t have it any other way. Life is good. Friendship is good. Community is life (thank God for pods) and there’s still so much to be grateful for. Now... off to iMovie to keep editing! ❤️❤️❤️」10月14日 10時59分
