The first image of a black hole was released a little more than a year ago. Now, using data from that image, scientists have put Einstein's Theory of General Relativity to the test.

General relativity suggests that massive objects warp space and time around them such that black holes can create shadows that appear larger than they are. By measuring the visual distortion in black hole image data, the researchers were able to confirm that is the case for this particular black hole, M87*. This new finding suggests Einstein's Theory of General Relativity is now 500x harder to beat.
