Paolo Roversi’s career spans a remarkable five decades. Roversi first became fascinated with photography on a family trip to Spain as a teen, prompting him to create a darkroom for printing black and white photographs soon after. After starting out his professional career as a photojournalist in 1970, the Italian-born photographer quickly shifted his attention to fashion, where his striking and painterly style of portraiture – often using his signature large-format Polaroid – and eye for classical visual language have since made him one of the industry’s preeminent image-makers. “For me, photography is always a presence and an absence at the same time,” Roversi has said. “It is a little phantom, a little ghost in the photograph. Even if it is silent photography talks a lot.” Roversi’s new exhibition is open now at @mar_ravenna ➡️⁠
