The US is made up of people with a diversity of faiths & identities, so religion should stay out of politics. The VP says he is pro life & warns the Biden/Harris Administration would increase funding for Planned Parenthood as if that’s appalling. He focuses on their abortion services, but according to PP’s 2018-2019 annual report, those services only made up 4% of what PP does. I got free birth control through Planned Parenthood when I first moved to LA & was low income. Previously I thought they were an abortion clinic because of the stigma attached to them by religious groups in Oklahoma where I’m from. PP is a health clinic that performs women’s wellness exams (pap smears/cancer screenings), as well as STD tests/treatments, sex ed, & family planning. The point is, Planned Parenthood is an incredible organization of essential workers providing affordable, life saving services that do MUCH more for people’s health & well-being than Pence would have you believe. They need government funding to help keep their doors open to provide necessary services for millions of Americans. When he says he is “pro life”, I seethe. I have a visceral reaction to any man having a stance on what a woman should do with their own body. But since abortion keeps being fixated on, to the women whose religion has influenced whether or not you would get an abortion, I respect your beliefs. Why should I have a say in what you do with your own body? May you be so lucky to be in a situation that properly provides for that child once it’s born. What I don’t respect is citing your religion as a reason that I should not have a say in what I do with my own body or what others do with theirs. Live and let live if someone’s actions aren’t harming a body that is breathing on its own. THAT is pro life. Care about the people living & breathing around you as much as you care about a fetus. Let them get married to men, women, non gender conforming individuals, whoever we fall in love with.
