We just started celebrating the Lunar New Year, and my daughter loves wearing the ao dai — a traditional Vietnamese dress — her grandma brought back from Vietnam. It’s important to us that they love being Black, Muslim, and Vietnamese. In our house, we don’t believe anyone’s better than anyone else because of their skin or any other superficialities. It depends on your character. Are you a good person? Are you standing up for others? Use your voice. I try to never shush my daughter — even if she’s telling on her brother.
