Our print of Michael Klim is on display again in at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra! 20 years ago our friend Michael Klim - along with many others – made sure that the Australians conquered the pool during the Sydney 2000 Olympic games! Now our 1999 portrait of him is once again on display in Gallery Six (Tim Fairfax Gallery) of the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, Australia. Michael Klim rose to superstar status in Australian swimming in 1998 by winning seven medals in seven events at the World Swimming Championships. In the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur that year, he again won seven medals including four gold. At the Sydney 2000 Olympics he won gold in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay (yes, THAT relay race!) and the 4 x 100m freestyle relay, and silver in the 200m butterfly and the 4 x 100m medley relay. He is ranked in the top three swimmers in the world over 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly. We made this portrait of Michael at the Australia Institute of Sport in 1999. This print was acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in 2000 for the permanent collection (with the assistance of staff of Old Parliament House and the National Portrait Gallery, in memory of Matthew Guy Hinder).
