there’s no ruling that can bring this woman back. and that’s not right. she did nothing to deserve losing her life. *but*: it is my fervent hope that her death was not in vain. I look around and I believe it wasn’t. I believe that if she is looking down today, through all the justified anger, she will see that the tragedy of what happened to her (and so many others this year alone) has served to shine a light on long-wrong systems and policies throughout our country that are, slowly but surely, shifting.

i trust that those reading this are compassionate humans who do not consider yourselves to judge other humans based on race. With love, I’m beseeching you to not use the phrase ‘all lives matter’. Here’s why: #BLM *means* that all lives matter – we say ‘black lives matter’ because of hundreds and hundreds of years of black lives being treated as though they matter less, and being at greatly uneven socio/economic playing fields.

The demonstrations held thus far are a largely peaceful movement – the vast, vast majority of the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of protesters have not destroyed property or hurt anyone, and that is not their intention. the destruction that has gotten so much publicity has mostly been enacted by a relative handful of individuals who are seeking chaos, and I hate this, because it’s completely counterproductive to the message.

One thing is for certain: that destruction is not supported by anyone running for office in november. A friend of mine was *screamed at* by a stranger in front of her home for her Biden sign - not because of his policy stances, but because he’s gonna ‘burn down our cities’. Now, whoever you plan to vote for, can we agree that’s ridiculous? A 45-year career politician & a former attorney general do not support burning down our cities. let’s make this election about the issues & let’s show by example that we can express our opinions without being violent.

thank you, to the many good, fair, and brave cops out there. i am grateful to you. and i have faith we are closer now than we were last year to a law enforcement where undue force carries consequences.
