We scream BLACK LIVES MATTER because “wanton endangerment” of people who are still alive is considered a crime, but actually killing an innocent BLACK woman in her own home is perfectly legal. Justifiable. Encouraged? We scream BLACK LIVES MATTER to gather each other close and hold one another during heartbreak and trauma and disregard so violent and deadly it borders on genocide. We scream BLACK LIVES MATTER and are shown and told in response that the mere idea of our lives being anything but disposable is terrorism. But we will continue to affirm it for ourselves. Every day. Every minute. Black lives matter. Black women’s lives matter. Breonna Taylor’s life mattered.
