If you’re in Northern Virginia, you may have heard of Pup ‘N Iron, a canine fitness and behavior center that offers everything from training classes to fitness to behavior consultations in their facility. Pup ‘N Iron is a life long dream of its founder, Laurie Williams. Laurie has been in the dog business for 35 years (!!) and worn many different hats in her time from general pet care to groomer to veterinary technician and finally, trainer. She fell in love with training in the 1980s working family dog classes at the NC Kennel club. From there, she expanded what and where she was teaching until she finally opened Pup ‘N Iron. ⁠⠀

⁠As a certified dog business rockstar, Laurie hopes to help the industry become a more diverse and inclusive place. In an article she wrote titled “How to Increase Diversity in the Dog World” she talks of her experiences as a person of color in a predominantly white industry and the efforts dog businesses can make now to help foster a larger sense of inclusion within the community as a whole.
