I feel like when we mention the word pride, especially towards ourselves there is a negative association to it. “I’m proud of myself” you can almost hear others saying “Don’t be arrogant” “Be more Humble” “You don’t deserve it” as if to be proud of ones self is a bad thing. My friend was telling me the other day how instead of telling his son he was proud of him, he would ask his son “Are you proud of yourself?”
To which he would reply “yes, I’m proud of myself Dad.” He wants to teach his son not rely on others approval but rather begin to build his own self worth. Of course he tells his son he is proud of him, but I thought it was beautiful how he is beginning to attach a positive association to pride from within.
I challenge you to think of 3 specific things that you can be proud of towards yourself .
- Something you learned
- Something you accomplished
- Something you chose
- Something you said
- How you handled something
It can be anything.
I suppose the point I’m making is to not be afraid to celebrate yourself. Give yourself some love, give yourself a pat on the back more often and never be ashamed to sit back and say “ Hey, I did that.”

Good luck to all the nominees tonight 🙏🏼
