LINE OF DEFENSE: Firefighters walk together while defending Southern California's Mount Wilson Observatory during the Bobcat Fire. Officials said the fire flared up Thursday night near the observatory and is again threatening the historic site as well as an array of broadcast antennas.

The Bobcat Fire has burned more than 50,000 acres and prompted evacuations in several foothill communities near Los Angeles.
