This arrival of force today is an act of aggression & control by The Crown who want to now own the narrative of this important piece of the truest Maori land because the local area is fast growing & becoming their latest CITY. When I travel abroad people often ask me about the Maori & how peaceful & tranquil New Zealand looks, the perfect balance. We, the Maori, owe that to an agreement we made with The Crown defining our relationship, rights & cultural autonomy. The flag in this picture is the one our chiefs agreed would represent both nations yet the Crown betrayed that agreement & flew the Union Jack. Like other betrayals, the breech happening at Maketu throws us back into the 1800s when indigenous peoples were treated like vermin, their village burnt & being forced off their land (whenua) for colonial expansion.
