I never looked forward to singing it and haven’t dared to since. However, after researching and interviewing several US veterans and service members, this song & it’s truth became real to us, and the test of performing it became vital night after night. And on closing night, exactly three years ago today, we played this anthem with broken hearts for the final time - receiving a standing ovation of applause I will never ever forget. What an honor to experience the journey alongside @naponacott, whose leadership, friendship, and limitless talent challenged me daily to dig deeper, to keep playing, to constantly trust one another & serve our story. We are so fortunate to have this recording of @bandstandbway, helmed by @thetonyawards-winning vision of the incomparable @ablankenbuehler, to relive these unforgettable moments and continue to share this important story that set the bar for all of our future theatrical experiences.
