Who in this house know about the quake? In Episode 3 of "The Story of Sign O' The Times," an earthquake hits Los Angeles just prior to Prince recording his iconic song "Sign O' The Times" at Sunset Sound.

"There were earthquakes, you know—the psychological kind, in his life, in the world," engineer Susan Rogers remarks in the podcast.

Informed by the bleak newspapers headlines of the day, Prince turned to his songwriting to reflect on the AIDS epidemic, Challenger explosion, and a gang called the Disciples from his hometown of Minneapolis.

"When I heard it I was like ‘Boy, did he tap in. Boy, does he know how to use fear and uncertainty and loss of control, and knows how to channel that," Susannah Melvoin remarked. "I was awestruck by that."

Episode 3 of "The Story of Sign O' The Times" also features the hits "The Cross" and "Housequake," in addition to the previously unreleased vault tracks “Everybody Want What They Don’t Got” and "Teacher, Teacher."
