Because I realize all too well that there will be girls and boys reading this that fear judgement of a parent, uncle, or even a complete stranger in their choice of life partner. A judgement based on the concept that you ought to love within your own race, religion, caste, social class, or assigned gender. Over the course of history that backward concept has caused more harm, misery, and despair than many infamous diseases and it can spread silently through a society if we don’t speak up. So that is why I choose to speak up and say to all those that need to hear it: I never thought I would fall for a Dutch guy. In fact, I didn’t even like blondes. But I know now that Love is the instant recognition of one’s soul in another. Love transcends skin color, Love ignores nationality, Love has no regard for borders, Love does not recognize ancestors’ faults, Love knows no gender, Love transforms the notion of us and them, Love is the only force strong enough to turn former enemies into partners, And if you are truly liberated from any racist or bigoted worldview, love can forgive.
