According to a 90’s self-help book I didn’t read but said I did, it’s not my “Love Language.” But still. Anyone else feeling touch-starved? I notice it most at the beginning or end of a social interaction. That moment when some form of touch is typically called for; if not a hug, at least a high five. But instead, these days it’s long, slow motion social shuffle that ends in a together-laugh at the awkwardness of the new situation we’re all in. I’ve simultaneously noticed an increased fondness I feel toward anything handmade. These wood spoons were hand carved and sanded by @abbyking.handmade . Maybe it’s because I’m touch-starved that I feel more sensitive to the souls of these spoons. They have personality and character and perfect imperfections; apparently from some kind of care-residue Abby left on them. They’ve made cooking even just a little bit more joyful. Like so many other areas of our lives, this time represents another opportunity to fast and reflect. We’re forced to abstain from touch, so we’re given the opportunity to value it more. And so, if we do this fasting well, then we’ll be left with a greater appreciation for the chances to cook for a friend, and then tightly embrace them before we part.」9月1日 13時39分
