There were so many great players, incredible teams and legendary coaches in the Big East. There was so much that I didn’t know but I was about to learn really quickly. The first time I crossed paths with Coach was in a game against Georgetown my freshman year. Coach Thompson stood at 6 foot 10 inches and always had a towel over his shoulder. That’s what I observed as a high school kid and it was the same the very first time I seen him in a game. Seeing him reinforced to me that I was on my way. I was very intimidated as an 18 year old freshman but I knew that I still had to do my job. Thank God that I didn’t have to play against him. John Thompson was an awe-inspiring man! College basketball wouldn’t be what it is without him. He was a true pioneer in the world of sports and he was even a better man. You will be missed but your example will live on forever.
