Our sweet Genevieve the Bunny crossed the rainbow bridge last Friday. We love and miss her so much. I have been bursting into tears randomly throughout the day.

Rest in peace, little one. We will always love you.

She had a terrible accident, but at least, she didn’t suffer. She has inspired to share a few things I have come to know about bunnies in the last several years:

If you’re still reading this, I really want to take some time to explain that rabbits truly are incredible family members.

They are not rodents - they’re lagomorphs. If they have a regularly cleaned litter box, they don’t smell. They’re actually really clean animals that are naturally potty-trained (similar to cats).

I’m not entirely sure why, but they are treated as backyard animals that live in little hutches here in the US. In the UK, it is common for them to not only be treated the same as dogs and cats, but it’s normal for them to be free-roaming pets inside the home.

Like cats and dogs, they should also be neutered and spayed, they come when called, they love treats, and they are considered part of our family. Like cats, they are litter-trained. Like many dogs, they are super friendly and give lots of bunny kisses - like Wiggles. Unlike cats and dogs, they are quiet... pretty much their entire lives.

I’ll be posting more about life with our free-roam bunnies. Genevieve the Bunny has inspired me to help people understand these wonderful furry family members.

I hope that this is at least a little interesting to some of you. If not, that’s okay, too :)

Fun fact: bunnies drink water out of bowls like dogs and cats, too!

Do you have any pets AKA furry (or not furry) family members? If yes, what are they and how old?
