Tomorrow will mark 201 years since Prince Albert was born. For Charity Tuesday, we’re looking at one of his great legacies: the V&A Museum.
.
@vamuseum was born out of Prince Albert’s brainchild: the Great Exhibition, which was the world's first international display of design and manufacturing. Following the hugely successful exhibition, Prince Albert decided that the profits should be used to develop a cultural district of museums and colleges in South Kensington devoted to art and science education. The V&A was the first of these institutions.
.
Initially known as the Museum of Manufactures, it first opened its doors in 1852.
.
Today, the V&A remains the world’s leading museum of art and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.3 million objects that span over 5,000 years of human creativity. The Duchess of Cambridge is Patron.
.
The museum has recently reopened following closure due to the Coronavirus outbreak. To find out more about its history and how to visit, follow our link in bio.
