The V&A was the first of these institutions.  . Initially known as the Museum of Manufactures, it first opened its doors in 1852. . Today, the V&A remains the world’s leading museum of art and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.3 million objects that span over 5,000 years of human creativity. The Duchess of Cambridge is Patron. . The museum has recently reopened following closure due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
