Sen. Kamala Harris of California formally accepted the Democratic nomination for Vice President on Aug. 19, becoming the first Black woman and first Asian-American to compete on a major national ticket. "There is no vaccine for racism. We’ve gotta do the work," Harris said in her remarks during the third day of the Democratic National Convention. "For George Floyd. For Breonna Taylor. For the lives of too many others to name. For our children. And for all of us. We’ve gotta do the work to fulfill that promise of equal justice under law. Because, here’s the thing, none of us are free until all of us are free." In selecting Harris as his running mate, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden did more than make history, @mollyesque and @charlottealter wrote after the initial announcement.
