Kocay: What was the inspiration behind your forthcoming EP, Gemini? Le Youth: “The EP is two tracks: ‘Arizona’ and ‘Gemini.’ Both of which have their own story, but collectively I made them during the early days of the pandemic. All of my shows were cancelled overnight and everyone was freaked out about the virus, as was I, but I remember thinking how great it will be to take a few weekends off from playing shows. I was thinking about all the music I would write while in isolation. So I wrote ‘Arizona’ the day I was supposed to be in Phoenix for a show with Lane 8, hence the title ‘Arizona’. ‘Gemini’ is a little more personal. Kocay: How did you pick the name of the EP? What does Gemini mean to you? Le Youth: “My astrological sign is a Gemini. I don’t believe in that stuff at all, but that sign is known for being two-faced and sometimes overly emotional. One of my close friends will tell me I’m acting like a Gemini sometimes when I’m being two-faced. I thought that was a great title because this EP could be perceived in two ways, like it had this split personality.
