Mary Ann was an abolitionist and a trailblazer, way ahead of her time, who succeeded in voting in multiple elections BEFORE the 19th Amendment was passed. She was also the first African American newspaper editor in America. Can you imagine? These were the first newspapers to address African-Americans and for the first time showed African American’s as intellectually sound and capable of appreciating culture and education.
