The Lebanese, over the decades of civil war, Israeli bombings, assassinations, perfected the art of soldiering on, taking pride in their ability to stay vibrant and beautiful no matter what. But nothing is fine. Nothing is OK. I am watching friends I love and strangers trying to make sense of this. Trying to make sense of their emotional whirlpool, trying to shrug off their emotions and feeling guilty when they can’t, trying to come to terms with their anger, their sorrow, their pain, their fear, trying to convince their children that they are safe, but how do you even do that when this blast ripped through what is meant to be the safest place – your home?
