So everyday he works hard to defend and protect that right for everyone. He saw the right to vote as the cornerstone and proof of life for a strong democracy. And he has skin in the game. He’s shed tears and blood to keep the vote safe, because he knows that’s what truly makes America great. And to maintain the conditions for freedom and justice, all American’s must fight to keep the ability to have their voices heard. Voting is that voice, it’s a powerful tool and John Lewis was its fierce guardian. What are you willing to do to protect this sacred right now that he’s gone?  A footnote. I saw two photographs taken during his funeral tour. One outside the Capitol in Alabama and another outside the Capitol in DC while he laid in state. Both images had a double rainbow in them. I was fascinated by the coincidence and decided that it was not coincidence it was destiny. It was John Lewis speaking to us from the upper room. I looked it up and one definition said it was from your loved one vowing to that they would never leave you. That they would look after you in time of need, during times of celebration.
