Repost from @miketsterling • I had to give a very quick response and I was trying to make three points in a limited amount of time: (1) say their names; (2) it’s a misleading question and an insult to suggest what’s happening in our country can be reduced to an “anti-police” movement. To be sure, we are anti-police brutality, anti-police misconduct, anti-police excessive force, anti inequality in our justice system, anti mass incarceration, anti blue wall of silence, but don’t ask me a misleading question and reduce the gravity of this moment. If there is to be reconciliation it starts with an honest conversation; and (3) the patent hypocrisy of the “bad apples” argument. It’s either one way for all of us or not. If it’s bad apples for police who go too far then it’s bad apples for protesters who go to far. Again, if we are to heal, it has to start with honesty.
