He was bringing baskets of tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers from his farm for people to simply take and enjoy. Hundreds of specimens larger and more beautiful than some of us have ever seen—and a crowd of building tenants already forming as he brought load after load. Big smile under John’s mask; happy to be talking to a few fellow gardeners about beetles and rain. After one such conversation with a particularly older couple who was all but immediately out of earshot, John turns to me and celebrates that smallest of chats about what the rain did and how to save green beans. “Isn’t that just the shit Bob?” It is. And it was a fitting bookend to our last hours in Buena Vista, where we saw descendants of the same tame family of deer that wandered the property the last time we came. A family for whom so little has changed. There is an economy in which generosity is the stimulus and living is the currency. John seems to know. I don’t want to forget. Thanks @iamfarmerjohn.」8月4日 4時10分 - robertjosiah
