Not only was our work being cancelled, but also for me, not being able to dive in and physically help the heroic health workers who were battling every day to save the lives of people impacted by this virus was very frustrating. Not being trained, I would only get in the way. I did the only thing I could do under the circumstances and that is repost stories I have done about the heroic nurses who are trying to make our world safe and heal those afflicted. I’ve spent a good portion of my career at @NatGeo and afterwards working on global health stories of which nurses played a big part. Ten years ago, I also did a book centered around how nurses intersect with the issues of global health. My seven-part nurse blog honors these people. The seventh and last posting is about community health workers and volunteers who rise to the occasion when professional medical staff are not available. They are all heroes.
