Each hairstyle created at the Friendship Salon is about more than fashion; it's a statement.⁣ ⁣ For the South Sudanese refugee women who run the salon, it is more than just a way to earn money.⁣ ⁣ They wanted to build a community for single mothers, a place where they could support each other and build their own family. So many of the women who come to the salon have lost family members, husbands, and children. ⁣ ⁣ “It’s difficult for women to talk and tell stories,” says Sarah, one of the salon owners.
