I am loving this window into the lives of the women who make up theFriendship Salon in a @refugees camp in Uganda. Each hair style has a name filled with meaning for these women who have had to flee from South Sudan. They are creating their own safe place together . Sending love to each and every one 💙

Welcome to the Friendship Salon.
Khemisa Mary fled South Sudan in 2016. Her hairstyle is known as the Dududu, which means caterpillar. Each hairstyle created at the Friendship Salon is about more than fashion; it's a statement.
For the South Sudanese refugee women who run the salon, it is more than just a way to earn money.
They wanted to build a community for single mothers, a place where they could support each other and build their own family. So many of the women who come to the salon have lost family members, husbands, and children.
“It’s difficult for women to talk and tell stories,” says Sarah, one of the salon owners. She is something of a mother to the group.
“In the salon, when something is wrong we can tell, and so we ask, we talk and together we find answers.”
Stay tuned as we share more of the hairstyles Sarah and her friends fashion in the Friendship Salon.
