‘I try to stay aligned with the process, meaning the way ideas come. I have to be agile, so that a mistake or error might be kind of interesting. I need to know how to balance those two things. So I'm never so fixed in the outcome. I try things out and from moment to moment, it has this momentum. But I'm not so attached to a certain kind of perfection at the beginning. I know that it goes through a process and wherever it lands is wherever it lands,’ says @lornasimpson of her art.⁠

Simpson came to prominence with conceptual photography that raised questions about the nature of representation, identity, gender, race and history. She has since embraced film, drawing, sculpture and painting, offering powerful critiques of institutional racism and sexism, and immersing viewers in the paradoxes of contemporary American life. ⁠
